Crescent cut diamonds are typically used in matched pairs as side stones. They are similar to the half moon shape but have a curved inner side rather than the half moon‘s straight side.
The curved side of the crescent make it a great compliment for center stones that have curved sides like the ovals, marquises and cushion cuts. When used as side stones, the crescent cuts should be within one color grade of the center stone to ensure a beautiful match.
Cutting diamond crescents results in more carat weight loss than half moon shapes and thus are a little more expensive per carat. However, their unique shape is generally considered well worth it when they see the beauty they bring to a three stone ring.
