The oval brilliant cut diamond measures 9.15 x 6.25 x 4.12 mm so it has a length-to-width ratio of 1.46. We recommend well rounded ends with a full body having the finest length-to-width ratio of 1.33-1.55. The oval brilliant cut diamond has a 65.9% depth percentage and a 54% table percentage. The oval shape’s technical name is “oval modified brilliant,” based upon its shape and modifications of the traditional round brilliant diamond configuration. The oval modified brilliant diamond shape was invented by Lazare Kaplan in the early 1960’s. Oval diamonds provide larger surface area than a round diamond with the same carat weight and therefore are a great choice for shoppers looking for the brilliance of the round diamond but a bigger size for their dollars.
The half moon diamonds measure 6.00 x 3.48 x 2.39 mm. The first number is the flat base of the moon that is set next to the oval shape diamond, the second number is the height of the diamond from the base to the curved edge and the third number is the depth of the diamond. The base of the half moon diamond needs to be a little shorter in length than the oval center diamond to allow the prongs holding the base corners of the half moon diamond to fit inside the prongs holding the corners of the oval cut diamond.
