This beautiful cushion cut diamond ring has a 2.31 carat square cushion cut diamond set in a custom platinum Bez Ambar engagement ring. The diamond ring features a tapered baguette on each side of the shank with 0.35 total carat weight in addition to the one hundred twelve pave-set round diamonds with 0.81 total carat weight. The pave diamonds surround the center cushion diamond in a knife edge style, on the bridge, and in two rows going half way down the shank.
The cushion cut diamond measures 8.19 x 6.96 x 4.73 mm so it has a length-to-width ratio of 1.07. Cushion cut diamonds come in various shapes from those almost square (length to width ratio 1.05 or less) to very rectangular (ratio 1.30 or more) to everything in between. The classic pillow shape tends to have ratios in the 1.10 – 1.20 range. This cushion cut diamond has a 68.0% depth percentage and a 57% table percentage. For cushion-cut diamonds, we recommend a depth of 59-69% and table of 50-65% with smaller percentages generally producing bigger size for the carat weight and better cut.
The cushion cut diamond was one of the most popular cuts of diamonds ever. From approximately 1830 to the turn of the century the cushion shape was simply how diamonds were cut. The cushion cut diamond is a general name for the Old Mine Cut, developed before the turn of the century. The older cushion cut diamonds return light in blocky patterns while the more recently cut stones return light in a needlelike pattern, usually with smaller culets. The sparkle, brilliance and beauty of the cushion cut diamond has more to do with the skill of the cutter than it does with the choice of one of three basic facet patterns. In the past ten years, there has been a renewal in the popularity of the cushion cut diamond shape. Fascinatingly, cushion cut diamonds are one of the most popular shapes for fancy colored diamonds because the shape displays the color evenly throughout the stone.
The custom Bez Ambar diamond ring illuminates the beautiful cushion cut diamond with knife edge pave diamonds while contrasting the brilliance with tapered baguette diamonds. The knife edge refers to two rows of pave diamonds. One row frames the center cushion cut diamond while the second row angles down towards the shank. This mounting style is outstanding because it gracefully frames the center diamond and provides sparkle from every angle. The diamond “frame” also makes the center diamond appear bigger than the actual carat weight. The pave diamonds gently curve up from the shank encompassing the tapered baguette diamonds and stop at the knife edge frame. One interesting feature of this diamond ring is that the shank has diamonds on the side which creates the illusion of an actual wedding band. The diamonds go half way down the shank so that this diamond ring can be resized if necessary in the future. Bez Ambar custom diamond rings showcase world class craftsmanship with pave and design second to none.
